New Paragraph

My paintings are influenced by British and American movie classics from Hitchcock to David Lean and have been described as painted in a style of Edward Hopper. I aim to capture the essence and the mood of a film with vivid use of colour, composition and lighting by incorporating a collage of film skills. This website also features Laurel and Hardy, Marilyn Monroe, and Princess Diana and include my latest paintings based upon the Christmas movie 'It's A Wonderful Life'.

I gained much commercial success throughout the eighties with three successful shows at Liberty's, Regent Street, London.

My painting of Lady Diana 1981 is featured in 'Diana in Art' by Mem Mehmet together with 300 beautiful and varied paintings that celebrate the life of Diana, the People's Princess.

My Inspiration for the Christmas movie 'It's A Wonderful Life'

The first time I watched 'It's A Wonderful Life' was with my father when I was just eight years of age in 1964 and was made more poignant and memorable for me, as I had recently lost my mother to cancer just the year before. The memory of IAWL stayed with me for many years later and it wasn’t till I attended Art School in Portsmouth UK, when by chance, I watched the movie again that had the same emotional impact as before.

It was in my first year at Art College in the winter of 1978 feeling alone and low-spirited, while renting a small bed-sitting attic room in Southsea, on one cold December day. I had completed my first term at college and knowing I was to spend my first Christmas alone, having no entertainment apart from my cassette player, I wandered the streets browsing local second-hand stores in search of a cheap television set. I was delighted when I came across a small 14inch black and white television advertised in a shop window for £17.00. The reception was extremely poor and I had to twist and turn the small looped Ariel to achieve a reasonable quality picture but that evening, while huddled beneath the blankets, I was over the moon when I discovered IAWL was being broadcast on television.

This time I appreciated this movie more than ever that eventually became my all-time favourite Christmas movie and over the years, it has never lost its emotional charm and impact. I went on to complete my three year degree course to obtain a BA Honours in Fine Art in 1981.
